LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The city of Little Rock terminated a contract with Think Rubix - the company hired to plan and promote LITfest - on Monday afternoon.
According to a letter obtained by KATV, Little Rock City Manager Bruce Moore terminated the contract effective immediately due to terms of the contract being violated.
In the letter, Moore states, "As of October 3, 2022, no city funds have been deposited by Think Rubix, and a stop payment procedure has been initiated by the City of Little Rock for the check issued by the city in the amount of $30,000. No further payments will be forthcoming."
Moore added, "No indirect or direct city funds are to be utilized for LITfest."
The city entered into contract with Think Rubix on June 9 and planned to pay the company $45,000 to plan and promote the festival as previously reported.
KATV spoke with city attorney, Tom Carpenter, who confirmed that all money donated to the festival must be immediately given to the city. Carpenter pointed to a legal clause in the contract that states if the contract is terminated the city receives all funds related to the festival.
Carpenter added, if LITfest goes on as scheduled, Think Rubix or organizers will have to pay the city to use Little Rock Police officers as security for the festival - at last check around 30 officers would be needed he said.
Channel 7 News has reached out to Think Rubix and are awaiting for confirmation on whether the festival will go on.
Just last week, KATV reported on the controversy surrounding LITfest - including accusations of "poor planning and a waste of the $45,000 they paid to Think Rubix."
