A man convicted of capital murder was found dead in his Arkansas prison cell from an apparent suicide Thursday, the state Department of Correction reported Friday.

Anthony Griffin, 52, was found hanging in his cell about 4:49 p.m. at the Ouachita River Correctional Unit in Malvern, the department said in a news release. Medical personnel responded but Griffin was pronounced dead 15 minutes later.

Arkansas State Police are investigating Griffin's death.

Griffin was convicted in the beating death of Moten Wynne, 79, in Crittenden County in 1993. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
