Police responded to an apartment on Rich Smith Lane Saturday morning after reports of an aggravated robbery involving a cab driver.

When officers arrived on the scene, Maurice White, 36, advised the responding officer that he was a taxi driver for Yellow Cab. White said he picked up a black male from Rock Creek Apartments on Monroe St. in front of building number four. The driver and suspect drove to Stone Ridge Apartments on Rich Smith Ln. where the male suspect advised him to drive to building one.

White said he had only been on the job with Conway Yellow Cab for two weeks before he came face-to-face with a chrome pistol.

"Only thing that struck me as odd was when he had on safety glasses," said White. "I was like, 'man why does this dude have on safety glasses.'"

The suspect reportedly asked White if he had change for a $100 bill and he replied with no. The suspect then asked if he could run inside of his apartment to grab a $20 bill, and White said yes. The victim said he did not see the suspect enter an apartment and thinks the male ran into the breezeway and came right back. The victim told police he was looking down when the suspect pointed a pistol at him demanding money.

"I guess when I heard him do a second click I just didn't want to get shot so I just gave him the money," said White.

White gave him $200 then ran off.

According to the Conway Police report, White stated the suspect was a small black male wearing blue sweats, a gray hoodie, and safety goggles. The male also appeared to be bald.

"If the dude's watching me - I'm just going to be honest - if I see him, I'm gonna get him," said White. "I don't like being putting a gun in my face - it's really making me mad. So I'm just going to be honest - honestly if I see him I'm going to get him."

A female allegedly made the call to have White pick up the male suspect. The phone number associated with her call to Yellow Cab was (501) 209-7923.
