Daughter files lawsuit after her mother dies in the Pulaski County Jail
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) —
Porcha Alexander and her attorney filed a wrongful death lawsuit in federal court on January 18th, a little over a year after her mother, Sharon, died from a fatal asthma attack while in jail.
This all happened back in December of 2016 when Sharon Alexander was arrested for robbery and her first night spent in the Pulaski County Jail, she died of an asthma attack.
Court documents say Porcha Alexander is claiming the people looking after her mother while she was detained, ignored her pleas for help and “refused to get the appropriate medical attention.”
She also believes the county sheriff's office failed to properly supervise and properly train its staff.
Alexander is suing for deprivation of civil rights, wrongful death, and medical malpractice against Turn Key Health Clinics, who were the contract providers for the county.
Court documents say Alexander is seeking punitive and compensatory damages on behalf of her mother.
