Elderly man kidnapped and nearly beaten to death

A 91-year-old man is in critical condition after he was kidnapped from his home in Judsonia and nearly beaten to death on Monday.

According to police, the elderly man was most likely trying to sell either his car or his pet bird to two suspects when he was forcefully taken from his home to an unknown location.

The White County Sheriff’s Department says the victim was then severely beaten before being taken back to his home where the suspects let him go.

“We have developed that the item involved was a ploy to just get face to face with this individual” said Major Clayton Edwards with the White County Sheriff’s Department.

So far, only one arrest has been made in the case. 25-year-old Tommy Trosper is charged with kidnapping and battery 2nd degree.

The elderly man’s neighbor who did not want to be identified says she was home when the encounter occurred.

“He came to knock on my door and I can’t remember what time it was, it woke me up and he said he needed my help. He said I need to talk to you and they called him back over to the car, I don’t know what he was going to talk to me about but he never made it back over to the house,” said the neighbor.

Trosper is being held in the White County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The White County Sheriff’s Department says additional arrests could be forthcoming.
