The Altheimer Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a residential area early Monday morning in reference to a house fire.

Officials say the fire occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Georgia St.

The fire chief tells KATV a neighbor saw the fire and ran to another neighbor's house to call 911.

In addition to the Altheimer Volunteer Fire Department, mutual aid was called in from area fire departments to assist fighting the blaze. Authorities say they were dispatched again Monday afternoon when flames rekindled at the site.

The house was a total loss and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The Red Cross is assisting the family who lived in the home.
