Former Arkansas police chief charged with drug possession, tampering with evidence
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) —
A former northwest Arkansas police chief was arrested Thursday, according to KATV content partner KHBS 40/29 News.
The Fort Smith TV station reported that Brian Key, former chief of the Lincoln Police Department, was charged with drug possession and tampering with evidence.
Key became police chief in August. He was fired in October after Arkansas State Police began investigating claims that he'd mishandled evidence. An officer reportedly told investigators that Key had taken Xanax pills during a traffic stop and that a glass pipe, used syringes and rubber tubing had been found in Key's police vehicle.
Key was released from the Washington County jail on bail Thursday afternoon, the TV station reported. His attorney declined to comment.
Lincoln is a city of 2,463 southwest of Fayetteville.
