Highway police officer injured in Hot Springs Co. accident on I-30

A Highway Police Officer is being transported to a hospital by helicopter after being injured in an accident on I-30 in Hot Springs County Wednesday morning.

According to the Department of Transportation, the accident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. on I-30 westbound near mile marker 81, just east of Arkadelphia.

State police say the accident occurred in a construction zone. The officer injured was working patrol in the construction zone when his vehicle was impacted from the rear by a vehicle passing through the construction zone.

The officer does not have life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle received minor injuries and is currently being questioned by State police.

All westbound lanes are blocked at this time. Traffic in the eastbound lanes are delayed, however, lanes are open.
