Police have released the identity of the 18-year-old University of Arkansas student who was hit and killed by a car on Saturday.

Andrea Torres of Clarksville was hit by a car on Saturday that was driven by a 17-year-old girl.

According to family members Torres died from her injuries at Washington Regional Medical Center.

University of Arkansas Police Captian Gary Crain said the student was crossing in a crosswalk on Garland Avenue between the Garland Parking Garage and the set of dorms dubbed "The Quads".

The 17-year-old driver is not a student at the University but did receive two citations: failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and use of a handheld device while driving, said Crain.

It is unclear if the driver will face additional charges as a result of Torres' death.
