Jefferson County officials are working to piece together the events that led up to the death of a three-month-old baby.

The sheriff's department confirms the baby was found unresponsive at a home in Pine Bluff Friday.

"It's a tragic incident anytime you have a child pass for unknown reasons," Sheriff's Office Operations Commander Major Randy Dolphin said.

Deputies along with paramedics rushed to 1321 Lindsey Drive in response to a 911 call.

When they arrived, investigators confirm they found the lifeless body of a three-month-old girl inside.

"Life saving efforts were unsuccessful, and the coroner pronounced the child dead," Dolphin said.

Dolphin says the baby did not have any obvious signs of trauma.

He says the infant's father Nicholas Crist was arrested for misdemeanor warrants and the infant's mother Brandi Crist is being detained for a parole hold.

Dolphin says this is not the first time the two have been taken into custody.

"They were arrested for commercial burglary, second degree domestic battery and endangering the welfare of a minor March of 2015," he said.

Dolphin says that child was taken from the two by the Department of Human Services back in 2015.

While it's unknown if the parents had any involvement in the three-month-old girl's death, Dolphin says authorities are desperately working to get answers.

Investigators say the baby's body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Dolphin says they expect to get results back on a cause of death Monday or Tuesday.

The baby's parents are being held at the Dub Brassell Detention Center in Pine Bluff.
