Man arrested on 75 counts of child pornography
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) -- Little Rock Police have arrested 62-year-old Michael Lewis of West Little Rock Thursday on 75 counts of child pornography. But his arrest is the second child porn incident within a week's time, according to Officer Steve Moore with LRPD. Police say they don't believe child pornography incidents to be on the rise, however, they say the incidents happen to be coincidental.
"This is the second guy in a week's time that we have served a warrant on child pornography charges," Moore said.
A months-long investigation leading police officers to arrest Lewis finally came to an end Thursday. Multiple agencies including the Vice Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, the Arkansas State Police, FBI, Denied Innocence Task Force, and the SWAT, all in on it.
"The SWAT team's utilized to hit the house when the warrant is served. That's what happened this morning, about 5:30, 6:00," Moore explained.
At that time, detectives and agents began tallying up the evidence. While the prosecuting attorney's office says they can't comment on any open cases, each image found in an offender's possession is one count. Michael Lewis, with 75 counts of possession of child pornography right now, according to LRPD, but that's not to say more counts won't come as investigators continue tallying up the evidence.
"We get tips, either anonymous tips, 'hey, you need to look at this individual,' or, 'this has been going on," or investigators start looking into that. They also look at computer-type generated tips that we look into," Moore added.
Investigators also look in to how the content was downloaded, according to Moore, and where it came from. Both offenders for now, behind bars and on state charges, Moore says.
As the investigation continues, police say detectives may even be led to other cases.
