Arkansas State Police are investigating after a White County sheriff's deputy shot a man Friday afternoon.

Sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Brandon Grimes said it happened about 3:45 p.m. in Mount Vernon. A deputy was called to a home in the 600 block of Valleyview Road west of Arkansas 5, where a man was reportedly suicidal. Grimes said that at some point, the deputy shot the man outside the home.

Grimes said the sheriff's office believes the man was armed when he was shot.

Further details were not immediately available.

The deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
