Authorities have identified the man killed in Thursday's officer-involved shooting in Pope County.

Quinton Phillips, 83, was shot and killed after he reportedly fired a rifle at Pope County Sheriff's deputies.

County and local law enforcement responded to a report of an armed disturbance at a home on Morgan Road in Dover shortly after 3 p.m.

Deputies were confronted by Phillips, who they said was holding a rifle. They ordered him to drop the gun, and that's when authorities say he took cover behind a truck and began firing the gun at the deputies.

At least one of the deputies returned fire and shot Phillips. He was taken to a Russellville hospital where he later died.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

Arkansas State Police are investigating the incident.
