A family says they were harrassed outside the Bryant Walmart when a man started yelling racially charged messages at them as they tried to load their groceries. Some of the interaction was caught on camera.
"My mother was fearful that he might pull out a firearm too. That's what she told me afterward," said Maria Meneses.
Meneses says the man was standing outside his car taking pictures of her family and their vehicle.
"When I went into Walmart and I came outside with one of the managers, he was outside taking screenshots and recording and taking photos of my mother and her vehicle all over the vehicle," she said. "It wasn't until the white manager came out and said that he was going to call the police that he drove away."
Meneses says it isn't the first time her family has experienced this kind of verbal abuse and folks like the man in the video need to be educated.
"I'm a 4.0 biology and pre-med major at Philander Smith College, a community activist as well as a future doctor. Let him know him know who I really am and let's see how his thoughts change afterwards," Meneses said.
She hopes the video brings awareness about the challenges that minorities face, and why it's important to speak up for one another.
