The Maumelle Police Department is investigating the suspicious death of a 19-year-old man who was found in his apartment unit Saturday morning.

Officials identified the victim as Anthony Thomas Jr. whose body was found at 11:30 a.m. inside the room of an apartment complex located at 1500 Union Ct. right behind the Maumelle police station.

Authorities say a neighbor called police to check up on Thomas.

It's unknown at this time how Thomas died or if there are any persons of interest.

Charlotte Nunes was walking her dog when police crowded the parking lot.

She witnessed dozens of what she believed to be family and friends of Thomas.'

"I just saw the family. You knew right away that had to be a death because they were crying. There were little kids on the ground," Nunes said.

It was one of those situations that Nunes described as heart wrenching.

"You couldn't watch it without crying. It was that bad," Nunes said.

Now a spiritual candle rests outside the doorstep of the room where Thomas was discovered by police.

Authorities urge anyone with information that could assist detectives in this case to call Maumelle police at 501-851-1337.
