McCrory police officer killed in single vehicle crash

An officer involved in a single vehicle crash on Arkansas Highway 17 has died.

Officer Robert Aaron Barker, 26, was responding to a call around 5 a.m. Thursday when his patrol car hit a deer.

Barker was traveling north on Highway 17, just south of the Patterson community.

Barker was pronounced dead at a Searcy hospital from injuries sustained in the vehicle crash.

Officer Barker has worked for the McCrory Police Department for four years. According to McCrory Police Chief Paul Hatch, Barker was also a volunteer firefighter.
