Police: North Little Rock driver killed in wreck after speeding through city
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) —
A North Little Rock man who was speeding through the city was killed in a one-vehicle wreck moments after an officer terminated a pursuit after his vehicle, according to police.
Early Sunday, a North Little Rock officer saw a suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Albert Saab, speeding in his vehicle on Broadway and attempted to stop it at the intersection of Broadway and Locust streets.
According to the police report, Saab did not stop but continued instead on Interstate 30 and then Interstate 40, with his vehicle reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour during the chase.
Due to the high rate of speed, the officer stopped following the vehicle at the I-30/I-40 split and relayed over the radio that Saab had taken the North Hills exit.
At that point, authorities say Saab's vehicle went slightly off the roadway, over-corrected to the left and hit a concrete wall before it flipped and he was ejected.
Saab was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
The investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
