Deputy injured in White County shooting

The deputy was able to arrest the suspect after the incident.

A White County sheriff's deputy was shot at least one time in the chest after responding to a call on Wednesday evening.

The deputy arrived at the 100 block of Meadow Lane in the Mount Vernon community around 7 p.m.

When the deputy approached the front door of the home, a suspect opened the door and fired shots at the officer, who was wearing body armor at the time of the shooting.

The deputy was able to arrest the suspect after the incident and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Arkansas State Police.

Authorities say the deputy was transported to a local hospital to assess any injuries.
