On Thursday, 450 Little Rock elementary school children received the gift of warmth.

Joe Cuffel, IAFF Local 34 Vice President says Booker Arts Magnet Elementary was picked for Operation Warm based on the percentage of children receiving free and reduced lunches.

“Most of our kids are fortunate enough to not worry about these kinds of issues but some of these kids when we go to give them a new coat they say this is the first coat I’ve ever had. You almost have to step out in the hall and compose yourself because it's so heartbreaking,” said Cuffel.

Throughout the year, firefighters gave to Operation Warm through payroll deductions along with a grant from Entergy of Arkansas.

“Most guys give a small amount, $5 to $10 a pay check but it adds up in the long run,” said Cuffel.

This is the 3rd consecutive year Little Rock Firefighters and Entergy have partnered with Operation Warm.
