Ouachita Co. highway closed until further notice after tanker truck explosion

UPDATE:

Highway 278, located just west of Camden, will remain closed until further notice following a tanker truck explosion early Wednesday morning.

According to the Department of Transportation, the explosion left a 15-foot deep crater in the road.

Crews will begin to repair the highway once the accident has been cleared.

The Ouachita Department of Emergency Management has confirmed one person was killed and two were injured in the explosion.

ORIGINAL (7:45 A.M.):

Multiple roads have been evacuated after a tanker truck carrying ammonium nitrate exploded on Highway 278 west of Camden.

According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, the explosion occurred sometime before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Half a mile of Highway 278 has been cordoned off due to the explosion. All lanes are blocked at this time.

Highway 57 and Highway 24 have also been closed.
