Pedestrian hit on northwest Arkansas interstate

The state's Department of Transportation says a pedestrian accident shut down lanes of a northwest Arkansas interstate Friday morning.

The department tweeted at 10:55 a.m. that the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 49 and called the wreck possibly fatal. According to KATV's content partner KFSM, this was near the Slaughter Pen Rd. overpass.

Arkansas State Police tells KFSM the pedestrian was hit while apparently picking up debris on the road.

The roadway was cleared at approximately 11:50 a.m.

Authorities did not release further details.
