LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The City of Pine Bluff announced Saturday that Kelvin Sergeant had been reinstated as police chief, days after he was removed from the position over "serious concerns regarding public safety."
The city said in a statement that Mayor Shirley Washington met with Sergeant on Wednesday to discuss public safety issues. Sergeant was reinstated Friday after agreeing to "enact systematic improvements" in police operations, the statement says.
"Moving forward, the city is committed to working with Chief Sergeant to improve public safety and protect Pine Bluff residents," the statement says.
Sergeant was hired as police chief in 2018.
