Police: Man attempted to escape robbery in Searcy, shot in the process

SEARCY (KATV) — Authorities are investigating after a man was shot while trying to escape a robbery in Searcy Tuesday.

Searcy police say they were called out to the 800 block of West Woodruff just after 12:00 p.m. in reference to shots fired.

As officers were headed to the scene, they were informed of a shooting victim at a local business nearby.

After arriving at the business, police discovered a 27-year-old male victim that had been shot in the lower back.

The victim stated that he had been at the residence on West Woodruff visiting a female when two black males tried to rob him. He told police one suspect was already inside the house when he went in and the second suspect was outside when he left.

The victim said he tried to run away, however, the suspects shot at him, hitting him once in the lower back and grazing him another time in the back.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Both suspects are described as black males in their early 20's.
