Man in Pine Bluff may be following women home, then robbing them

Police in Pine Bluff have a warning for women while they’re out shopping: look out for a purse snatcher.

They say the suspect ran up behind four separate women after they returned home from shopping and used or threaten to use force to take their purse and shopping bags.

The first victim, who didn’t want to be identified, spoke to Channel 7. After a trip to Walmart, she pulled up in her driveway on South Ohio Street. Once she got out, she was attacked.

"He just come from out of nowhere, walking down the street," she says. "He was calling me vulgar names and stuff like that, asking me for money - where's your money and where's your purse?"

She describes the man as a stocky, light-skinned black man, wearing a gray coat and winter hat. She said he pushed and hit her during the struggle.

"And then he just grabbed me and snatched me and cursing and saying-just beating me in my head and stuff," she says.

He finally stopped and took off running when the woman set off the car alarm. Making matters worse, the woman didn't even have a purse. She says he took off with her Walmart shopping bag.

After she was robbed on South Ohio Street just after midnight, another woman was robbed around 9:30 a.m. on Forest Knoll Drive. Then at 11 a.m., another woman was robbed on West 31st Avenue. The last victim was robbed at 6:30 p.m. on South Cherry Street.

Police believe the man was in a red, two-door car, following the third victim home from Brookshire's. All victims have described the suspect as a heavy-set black male with light skin.

Authorities believe the suspect may be following the women home from the stores since each robbery has happened in a different location.

While the first victim has bruises and scratches, she's glad she and the others weren't seriously injured.

"I'm okay, I’m blessed,” she says. “I just wish the public would come forward. It could be their family member next time."

The Pine Bluff Police Department is asking women to do the following:

  • Be aware of your surroundings when checking out at a store
  • Keep the contents of your purse and wallet hidden
  • Look for anyone suspicious around your home before exiting your vehicle

If anyone has any information regarding these robberies they are asked to call the Pine Bluff Police Department at (870)730-2090 or the Dispatch Center at (870) -541-5300.
