Russellville police arrest 1 in overnight shooting

Russellville police on Sunday arrested a man in a shooting that injured one person overnight.

Joseph Ramirez, 30, was charged with first-degree battery.

Officers were called to a report of gunfire at 12:41 a.m. in the 1100 block of East 9th Street, according to a news release. Police found Ramirez and another man lying on the ground. The other man had reportedly been shot. Both were taken to St. Mary's Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Ramirez was released from the hospital later Sunday and arrested. He was being held in the Pope County jail.

The other man, who police had not named, was taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock for further treatment, according to police.

Additional details were not released.

Police said an investigation is ongoing.
