Shannon Hills Mayor arrested on burglary charge
Saline County, AR —
According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office, Shannon Hills Mayor Mike Kemp was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. They said he is facing charges of burglary, trespassing, and theft of property.
The Saline Courier reported an arrest warrant states Kemp, along with two other unidentified men, broke into a woman's home over a two-day period and stole two televisions,and a microwave. They said the items are worth around $850.
Since Kemp's arrest Tuesday, KATV has learned that the alleged thefts were from at least one unit that the mayor rents out. We will learn more on that at Kemp's hearing Wednesday.
Kemp sits on the board for the Pulaski County Special School District. The district put out a statement that said, "We are taken aback and are awaiting further information. We are currently unable to reach Mayor Kemp. The board will monitor the situation and take appropriate steps if and when it is necessary"
The Saline County prosecuting attorney said the felony burglary charge could hold a five to 20 year sentence, if convicted.
