The White County Sheriff's Office has identified a man suspected in a pair of fatal shootings on New Year's Day and later killed by deputies.

On Monday, Chief Deputy Phillip Miller says deputies were called about 1:30 p.m. to a report of a shooting near Starlight Lane in Romance.

According to authorities, 42-year-old Archie Lawhon III of Cabot was suspected of shooting two victims, identified as Starla Exum, 45, of Romance and Timmy Dickson, 54, of Searcy.

Dickson's nephew tells Channel 7 Lawhon is Exum's brother, but he doesn't know why Lawhon was at the property that afternoon.

The sheriff's office says Exum was found dead near a home in the area and Dickson died as he was being taken to a hospital.

Deputies searched the area and came into contact with Lawhon at about 3:15 p.m. Deputies fatally shot him after he pointed a gun at them, Miller says.

At this point, investigators are still working to determine what led up to the deadly encounter.
