Authorities say a woman has died after she was shot while holding her 5-year-old child, who was also injured, outside a North Little Rock apartment complex Friday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. outside Fairfax Crossing Apartments on McCain Park Place, authorities tell KATV.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old April Harris of North Little Rock was walking to her car with her four children, including two 10-year-olds, a 9-year-old and the 5-year-old she was carrying, when a man wearing a ski mask and black clothing approached her and began shooting.

"Currently, there were no words exchanged that we're aware of," said Lt. Cody Burk, the public information officer for the sheriff's office.

Harris and the 5-year-old girl were struck by the gunfire. The other children were able to flee the area.

The suspect left the scene headed south in the complex.

Authorities say the 5-year-old is at Children's Hospital in stable condition and is alert.

Anyone with information on this homicide is asked to call the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.

*Editor's Note: Authorities told KATV the day of the crime that the shooting occurred at Chapel Ridge Apartments. The sheriff's office has now identified the apartment complex as the Fairfax Crossing Apartments.
