Jackson County Sheriff's Office sent deputies to a residence along Jackson County Road 76, east of Swifton.

According to the sheriff's office, a deputy made contact with 42-year-old Sjon Anthony Woods, who was armed with a handgun and reportedly fired the gun into the ground.

After learning about the incident, Arkansas State Police, Swifton police and Tuckerman police arrived at the scene.

Woods ignored law enforcement commands to drop his weapon and pointed it at officers, then an Arkansas State Trooper shot Woods, say police.

Woods was taken to an area hospital for treatment and authorities say he is listed in serious condition.

State Police say no law enforcement officers were injured.

Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the use of deadly force by an officer.

The unit will turn in the investigation for consideration to the local prosecuting attorney who will determine if the use of deadly forces was consistent with state laws.

The state trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the result of the investigation.
