Suspect who fled Arkansas police dies in head-on crash involving four vehicles

A 44-year-old suspect who fled authorities during a traffic stop died in a head-on crash when driving the wrong way on the interstate Friday morning.

At 10:37 a.m., a state trooper pulled over a Chrysler sedan in Lonoke County, but during the stop, the driver fled eastbound on Interstate 40.

State Police lost the car during the pursuit, but nearly an hour later, the suspect was again seen traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the interstate.

Moments later, at 11:31 a.m., state police responded to a report of a head-on crash involving four vehicles about sixteen miles away from of Forrest City in St. Francis County.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and at least four people in the other vehicles were injured. One of the injured was airlifted from the scene.

Authorities have not released the suspect's name as they work to notify the next of kin.

State troopers assigned to the Highway Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the crash.
