Union Pacific announces layoffs in Little Rock area
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) —
Union Pacific announced approximately 60 people in the Little Rock area were laid off due to workforce reductions across the company.
Kristen South, the senior director of corporate communications and media relations, said the employees worked in the locomotive and car repair facilities.
South explained the company originally announced in October a reduction of approximately 475 employees in the fourth quarter and recently added another 200 workforce reductions system wide.
"The workforce reduction is an effort to reduce our general and administrative support structure as we continue implementing our new operating plan, Unified Plan 2020, which ensures Union Pacific remains a strong, competitive and vibrant company," South said.
