A White County deputy fired his weapon at a suspect after responding to a report of gunfire Saturday, authorities said.

Chief Deputy Phillip Miller tells our content partner, KAIT, authorities got the call at 7:20 p.m. about possible shots fired from two homes on Sidon Rd.

After speaking to someone at the scene, a deputy attempted to contact the suspect.

Chief Deputy Miller tells KAIT at that time, the suspect brandished a long weapon and moved it into a firing position, prompting the deputy's response to use deadly force.

The suspect was taken to the Unity Health Medical Center in Searcy.

Arkansas State Police special agents will investigate the incident.
