WASHINGTON (TND) — Erratic billionaire Elon Musk drew headlines in November 2022 when he tweeted his support for Republicans in the midterm election. He drew more attention from the world of political Twitter on Monday when he revealed in a tweet that he voted for President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential campaign.
Musk, the owner and for-now CEO of Twitter, made the revelation responding to a tweet by user @VincentCrypt46, an account that appears to mainly post and share right-wing conspiracy theories, which featured a Tiktok video of a woman holding a sign saying, “Just because I voted for Biden doesn’t mean I’m stupid.”
That original video, by Tiktok user giggleboxpatriot – a pro-Trump account – appears to parody of a format of social media video posts first popular in the mid-2010s in which the poster uses a series of messages on pieces of paper to make a strong emotional point. Giggleboxpatriot slides out the papers from behind the one saying “just because I voted for Biden doesn’t mean I’m stupid,” as a joke to say that this is true.
Musk responded saying “I voted for Biden” with an emoji showing a sad facial expression.
The SpaceX and Tesla CEO is known for replying to random accounts and tweets with his opinions, which is sometimes just him trolling, but his sentiment seems genuine here.
Musk was also noted to be a vocal Democrat and liberal in previous years – even donating $50,000, his largest ever single donation, to Rahm Emanuel’s 2015 mayoral re-election bid, according to opensecrets – and was a vocal campaigner against climate change. His politics have taken a right-ward turn since his vote for Biden in 2020.
