Former Arkansas AD Jeff Long to run Kansas athletic department
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) —
Former University of Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long has a new job.
Long, who was fired by Arkansas in November after nine years at the university, is the new athletic director for the University of Kansas. The university announced Thursday that it had hired Long after a seven-week search.
Long will be officially introduced at a news conference Wednesday, according to the university. His first day on the job will be Aug. 1.
Kansas said in a news release that Long will be paid $1.5 million per year for five years.
That salary is in addition to monthly payments Long still receives from the Razorback Foundation, the private nonprofit that supports Arkansas' athletics program. The foundation agreed to pay him up to $4.625 million in buyout money for the remainder of his contract, which runs through 2022.
The group has reportedly said the payments could be reduced if Long starts a new job.
