Murphy Taken By Detroit In 11th Round Of MLB Draft

Junior pitcher Kacey Murphy was the first Razorback taken on the third day of the draft Wednesday, as he was selected in the 11th round, 315th overall, by the Detroit Tigers.

Murphy was the first name called on the third day of the draft and becomes the sixth Arkansas player selected this week, second starting pitcher. Fellow Hog Blaine Knight was taken in the third round Tuesday by the Baltimore Orioles.

The Rogers, Arkansas native started 14 games this year, and has the second-best overall ERA among starters at 2.86 and sixth lowest in the conference. With a record of 8-4, Murphy has allowed just 28 earned runs over 88.0 innings pitched.

Nationals Pick Up Second Razorback, Draft Lee In 15th Round

The Washington Nationals took sophomore two-way player Evan Lee in the 15th Round, 461st overall, on the third day of the MLB Draft Wednesday.

Lee was listed as a left-handed pitcher when the Nationals took him early Wednesday afternoon, making him the third Arkansas pitcher taken in this year’s draft.

On the mound this year, Lee recorded a 4-3 record in 14 appearances, winning three of his last four decisions. Against the then fourth-ranked Red Raiders of Texas Tech, Lee posted 1.2 innings of relief without giving up a hit while striking out a career-high four to earn the win.

Offensively, Lee posted a .300 average in 50 at-bats with 15 RBIs, three home runs, 11 runs scored, and a stolen base. He’s worked primarily as the designated hitter with some time at first base and the outfield. Five times this year he’s posted multi-hit games and has a three-hit game against Dayton (Feb. 28), which ties a career-high.

Loseke Taken By Yankees In 17th Round Of MLB Draft

The New York Yankees drafted Arkansas right-handed pitcher Barrett Loseke in the 17th round, 517th overall, in the 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft Wednesday afternoon.

Loseke is the eighth player overall and fourth pitcher taken in this year’s draft from Arkansas. He joins Blaine Knight, Eric Cole, Grant Koch, Jax Biggers, Carson Shaddy, Kacey Murphy and Evan Lee as Razorbacks who have been selected this week.

This season, Loseke has posted a 3.35 ERA in 40.1 innings with a 2-2 record over 21 appearances. In Southeastern Conference (SEC) action, Loseke tallied a 2.79 ERA over 19.1 innings while picking up a pair of wins against Alabama and LSU, as well as saves against Texas Tech, Alabama, and Texas A&M.

Cubs Pick Reindl In Draft's 17th Round

Junior right-hander Jake Reindl was the ninth Razorback taken in the 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft Wednesday afternoon when he was selected in the 17th round, No. 518 overall, by the Chicago Cubs.

Reindl is the ninth Arkansas player overall and fifth pitcher selected in this week's draft joining Blaine Knight, Kacey Murphy, Evan Lee, and Barrett Loseke. It matches the number of pitchers Arkansas had selected in last year's draft, which ties for the most in the last five years.

The junior out of nearby Shiloh Christian has given the Razorbacks 43.1 innings of relief this season and posted a 2.47 ERA with a 3-1 record and five saves. His ERA is the lowest among all relievers on the staff and has worked three or more innings on seven occasions this season. He's been particularly dominant in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play, posting a 1.25 ERA in 21.2 innings with three saves, his second-straight year with a sub-2.00 ERA in league play.

Angels Get Isaiah Campbell In 24th Round Of MLB Draft

Redshirt sophomore Isaiah Campbell became the sixth Razorback pitcher taken in this year's Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft Wednesday afternoon when he was selected in the 24th round, No. 721, by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

With Campbell's selection, all three of Arkansas' 2018 starting rotation (Blaine Knight, Kacey Murphy) was selected in this week's draft and the six pitchers taken is just one less than the record of seven taken in 2013. Campbell is also the 10th Razorback taken overall in this week’s draft.

After suffering an injury in his only appearance in 2017, forcing him to miss the rest of the year, Campbell made his return to the starting rotation this year and started strong. He gave up just five earned runs over his first 24.0 innings, including an eight-inning appearance against then-No. 4 Kentucky, allowing just one run and striking out a career-high eight batters.
